While intercepting a Luftwaffe Dornier 17 during the Phoney War, Hurricane I H-33 piloted by Sgt. Pierre Van Strijdonck was hit by the rear gunner over the Durbuy area in the Ardennes on 12 March 1940. The pilot managed to make a belly landing in his crippled aircraft at Pallenge. Fortunately he remained unhurt.
