Following the example set at Zeebrugge and in order to protect those submarines of the U-boatflotille "Flandern" which
were based in the port of Oostende a seaplane station was created at the "Spuikom" which was called "Seeflugstation Flandern II"
(the Zeebrugge base was named "Flandern I"). From 11 March 1917 until the end of the hostilities some
Hansa-Brandenburg W.12 seaplanes were based here.
